The Design Process

How to get from Concept to the Finished Garden
Stage One – The Master Plan

Initial visit to your home : 2-3 hours
The first visit is crucial to the process in that the initial ideas and brief can be thoroughly discussed on site in your home.
Frances will guide you through the whole procedure, explaining process and thinking.
It is sometimes useful to bring measures and canes to map out any areas that need to be changed. It is essential that all parties that use the garden are at this meeting, and Frances encourages all thoughts and ideas to be shared.

COST
Initial Meeting is £60 per hour or part ( this will be free if a Garden Design is then commissioned )

Garden Design Plan
Having met with her clients, Frances will prepare a quote for the design work. A Design Brief will be finalized at this stage.

The Quotation will include :
A survey cost
Initial sketches by Frances
Meetings
Completion of the Final Plan in INK

COST
A Garden Design Plan for a small garden starts at around £ 700 and can be in excess of £2,000 for a large garden.
At the end of Stage One, clients may like to build the design themselves, request a list of reliable contractors or move on to Stage Two.

Stage Two – The Build
Frances works with her husband and a team of established, reliable contractors for The Construction.  She will put the work out to tender (if required) and monitor the works through to completion.
A Quotation for design works to construct The Build might include:
A Setting Out Plan to enable contractors to accurately lay out the new design if needed.
Specification document or Scope of Works detailing all materials and works to be completed
Planting plan for the new beds.
Construction drawings of specific items, water features, steps, pergolas, decking/paving

Tender documentation
Meetings with  structural engineers/planning/architects as nrequired.
Contact with designers of bespoke features, eg: benches, arbours, sculptures, water features
Monitoring the works through to completion

Cost
Cost of The Build of the garden is, on average £130 per m2, when considering  costs of the hard landscaping, (paving/walling/gravel) and soft landscaping, (lawns/hedges/plants).

Most clients like to spend between 10% and 20% of the value of their house on their garden
